The Thing (1982) - suspense, paranoia, psychological terror and amazing practical FX.

American Werewolf in London - humor and horror (not done as well to that point) and still a sense of dread throughout the film and, of course, amazing practical FX work that won the first Oscar for FX.

JAWS - it just completely changed the awareness of everyone in the world by showing us and putting front and center a very real horror that is actually out there. The practical FX when available really shined, but even better was the psychological suggestion of the shark more so that made us scared. A great story with classic characters didn't hurt either.

Alien

Psycho

Friday the 13th Part 2

Alien-Because of how the concept came about with the creature of the movie and I love HR Giger's work in creating the Alien.

Psycho-Because I like the camera work and how the shower scene came together.

Friday the 13th Part 2-It introduces Jason.
