I think you're gonna love it buddy. Season 5 is currently on air, so you can check it out on TV...
Preview seasons were released on DVD and I suggest you check them out.
It's cop show, but what I like about it is that they focus on criminal (usually serial killer) and his motives and well... MIND (how he think, why he does the killing and so on) instead of the crime itself.
There were many creepy serial killers in the show. All of the episodes were great in my opinion, no single floop.
My personal favorite was episode RIDE THE LIGHTNING from season 1. It had very different approach to the rest of the series, but it was kick ass...
There's one recurring character, serial killer known as THE REAPER, which would be great in any horror flick.
Worst thing about it is that evil comes from humans and their deranged minds, there's no supernatural elements in the show.
Check it out if you can, I think you'll like it, and it might give you some inspiration for serial killers in your movies, who knows?

Looks interesting JackFrost. I have tunnel vision for the next few months for sure. After that I'll see if I can check it out on DVD. There's a place in NYC on 1st ave and 8th street called Kim's Underground Video. They have everything.

check it out then.  I finished all five seasons in a week and half. 
and I've checked ratings yesterday... omg... Season 5 - 17 million viewers. 
other season had around 15 mil.
